EU Proposes High Tariffs on Russian Grain to Avert Market Turmoil

The European Commission has proposed significant tariffs on Russian grain to prevent market destabilization within the EU. This measure, targeting cereals, oilseeds, and related products from Russia and Belarus, aims to curb low-cost grain influx, potentially triggered by Russia’s capacity to flood the market. A €95-per-tonne tariff on Russian maize and wheat and a 50% “ad valorem duty” on other products are suggested to dissuade purchases and protect the EU market​.
