The National Federation of Coffee Growers announced a significant increase in coffee production during a press conference held this Tuesday. Germán Bahamon, the General Manager of the Federation, revealed that coffee production reached 11.6 million sacks by April 2024, marking a 31% increase compared to the previous year.

The press conference began with a minute of silence in memory of Carlos Castañeda, the actor who portrayed Juan Valdez since 2006 and recently passed away. Bahamon then highlighted the remarkable growth in coffee exports, which have seen a 10% increase from October to April, while Federation-handled exports surged by 31%.

Despite the overall rise in production and export figures, coffee imports have seen a decline of 6% in April, with a significant reduction over the past year totaling a drop of one million sacks. Bahamon also noted the impressive performance of coffee prices on the New York Stock Exchange, which have reached their highest in the last quarter.

The Federation’s net worth has also grown by 3% over the last year, reaching a historical high of 71.6% in asset strength. Bahamon proudly pointed out the Federation’s massive export growth to China, with a 132% increase in national exports and an even more remarkable 200% increase by the Federation itself.
