June Drought Causes Decline in Wheat Yields

August 27, 2023 Off By Author

This year’s agricultural challenges persist as unpredictable weather patterns take a toll on wheat production. After enduring a wet autumn and early spring which resulted in weak root structures, especially on clay-based soils, farmers now face the repercussions of a June drought. This drought severely affected crops during a crucial growth phase, leading to disappointing yields. Wheat moisture levels have shown significant fluctuations, ranging from 21.25% to 11.6% in just three days, only to increase again due to subsequent rainfalls. While crops typically flourish in June, this year has mostly yielded average to subpar wheat, both in quantity and quality.
