WFP Raises Urgent Concerns for Food Security Amidst Israel-Palestine Conflict

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is voicing grave concerns over the escalating conflict in Israel and Palestine, and its dire impact on civilian food security. As the conflict amplifies, essential food supply chains are disrupted and food production is significantly obstructed, placing vulnerable populations, particularly children and families, in peril. WFP is demanding safe, unimpeded humanitarian access to impacted regions, urging all involved parties to adhere to humanitarian law principles and safeguard civilian well-being, which includes ensuring consistent food access. While ready to provide immediate aid with pre-positioned food stocks, WFP is also supporting local economies by collaborating with local shops and bakeries. Amid these challenges, WFP perseveres in delivering vital food assistance, aiding approximately 350,000 Palestinians monthly and providing additional support to nearly one million Palestinians with other humanitarian partners, despite a 60% assistance reduction since June 2023 due to funding deficits.
