Micro Irrigation Schemes Rise by 1.42 Million from 2013 to 2018

Official census data unveiled on Saturday indicates a substantial growth in micro irrigation schemes, reporting an increment of roughly 1.42 million between 2013-14 and 2017-18. The sixth census of minor irrigation (MI) highlighted that there has been a significant uptick in both groundwater and surface water schemes at the national level.

Micro irrigation systems, which include techniques such as drip and sprinkler irrigation, are gaining momentum due to their efficiency in water use, especially in areas prone to water scarcity. This rise suggests that the nation is focusing on sustainable agricultural practices and water conservation.
