Normal Rainfall Expected This Summer

The early portion of summer shouldn’t be lacking in moisture.

“It looks like we’re going to stay normal to above-normal in rainfall through July,” said Freese-Notis Weather meteorologist Paul Otto, who is heard daily on the RFD Radio Network. “That is good news because normally once the Memorial Day weekend passes, we go to hot and dry, and it doesn’t look like we’re going to have that this year.”

The active weather pattern will stay in play for the remainder of May, and farmers will have to continue taking advantage of narrow fieldwork windows.

“It looks like rain every couple of days,” he said. “The best chance for a good stretch of dry weather is in the mid-range outlook early next week.”

A northwest flow builds in that will bring with it slightly below normal temperatures.

“And that does provide us a little bit of a chance to rest our rain gauges,” Otto said.

Active weather is then set to return May 23-24, which will usher in some warmer weather.

As far as the temperature pattern this summer, he expects normal to slightly above normal readings through September.

“But we’re not going to have the historic heat that we always seem to get right after Memorial Day weekend,” Otto said.

That should stay across Texas, Oklahoma, southern Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
