Rice Prices Skyrocket Globally, Concerns Over Potential Export Restrictions Grow

Global rice prices have surged to over $600 a tonne for most varieties, with the exception of Indian parboiled 5% broken and Thailand 25% broken white rice. This price spike, the highest in nearly 15 years, follows India’s ban on white rice shipments since July 20. Amidst this backdrop, there’s growing apprehension among international traders that major exporters like Thailand and Vietnam might implement restrictions on rice exports. Additionally, there’s speculation that India might also impose limitations or bans on parboiled rice exports.
