Sudan faces a worsening humanitarian crisis with thousands dead, over 3.3 million displaced, and approximately half of its citizens nearing famine, as highlighted by the UN. The unexpected conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has prolonged for almost five months, and there is no sign of a cease-fire or initiation of humanitarian assistance.

Constant reports of atrocities, including killings, lootings, and sexual violence, emerge from war zones, particularly in Khartoum, Darfur, and Kordofan. Aid workers and human rights activists are not exempt, with many being harmed and offices of humanitarian organizations plundered.

Abdul Azim Ahmed’s story depicts the grave reality of displacement. After being uprooted multiple times due to escalating violence and deteriorating conditions, he, like many others, sought refuge in ancestral villages. Economic ramifications are evident as many, including Ahmed, have lost jobs since the conflict began.

Inflation is rampant, with skyrocketing prices for food and essential commodities, mainly attributed to supply shortages and insecure transportation routes. The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization raises alarms over the nation’s acute food shortage, with over 20.3 million people facing extreme food insecurity.

The healthcare system is near collapse, with many hospitals in Khartoum closed, depriving citizens of critical care. Tragically, the conflict even dictates the final rites, with families forced to bury their deceased within their homes due to the perilous conditions outside. The overall situation in Sudan remains grim, demanding immediate international attention and aid.
