New South Wales farmers Brooke and Andrew Paff have set a world record with the sale of their Speckle Park bull, Born Ready Shady, for $150,000 at the East Coast Select sale in Kempsey. The sale to Queensland stud Ivery Downs Speckle Park exceeded the previous record by $50,000, set by Six Star Justice in May 2022. The Paffs expressed their astonishment at the price, especially as Born Ready Shady was the first bull they ever sold, with an initial reserve of just $6,000. A contributing factor to the impressive sale was Shady’s eye muscle area (EMA) score of 143, indicating a superior meat-to-bone ratio. Remarkably, Born Ready Shady was born without the breed’s characteristic speckles, but has now become a valuable asset in diversifying the increasingly white coloration in the Speckle Park breed. Australia stands out in the Speckle Park industry, even exporting genetics back to the breed’s origin, Canada.
